From training the people to designing
the rooms.

I've been on a gym floor sixty to seventy-five sessions a week since I was twenty-one. Every client in that time has come by referral. Some of them you'd recognise, which is exactly why none of them are named here. I think of the body as the first structure: build it right, then build around it. Now I'm building the rooms it trains in.

I came to this sideways. I left accounting to train full-time, and I'd spent the years before that around fashion, detail and people who expect things done properly. I've stood inside the best private gyms on the continent long enough to know exactly where they succeed and where they quietly fail.

The rooms differ; the reason doesn't. A family wants a space at home they'll actually use. A developer needs the amenity floor to sell the units. A hotel needs the wellness floor to fill the rooms above it. A yacht is all three at once, at sea. In every case the gym has stopped being a line in the brochure and become the reason someone chooses the building.

The gap is simple. The wellness spaces in even the best buildings are designed by people who have never trained anyone. Interior design firms make them beautiful. Equipment dealers fill them with whatever moves. Nobody in the room has watched how the space actually gets used at six in the morning, and it shows. A design firm can make a gym beautiful. Twenty-eight thousand hours make it right.
